The second problem usually brought up is "when are the games played”.  Below I will offer two different tournament schedules that will not conflict with the end of the NFL season, playoffs and Super Bowl.

Schedule One

This schedule is based on having the National Championship Game New Years Day.

First Round of Games (8):

2 Games 12/07/06 - Thursday
2 Games 12/08/06 - Friday
4 Games 12/09/06 - Saturday

Second Round of Games (4):

2 Games 12/14/06 - Thursday
2 Games 12/15/06 -Friday

Third Round of Games (2):

2 Games 12/23/06 or 12/24/06

Championship Game

January 1, 2007

Schedule Two

This schedule is based upon having the Championship Game the Saturday before the Super Bowl or the Saturday before the NFL Conference Championship games. In the event of an off week for the NFL between conference championship games and Super Bowl, the NCAA could play it's championship game on that week.
While I don't think this schedule is the most favorable of my two proposals, due to excessive time of between end of regular season and start of playoff, it's still feasible.

First Round of games (8):

4 Games on 12/29/06 - Friday
4 Games on 12/30/06 – Saturday

Second Round of Games (4):

2 Games on 1/4/07 – Thursday
2 Games on 1/5/07 – Friday

Third Round of Games (2):

2 Games on 1/12/07 – Friday

Championship Game:

January 20, 2007 (No week off) January 27, 2007 (One week off) or February 3, 2007 (Two weeks off)

Either on of these schedules would/could also help bring some kind of parity to the recruiting process.  More ‘lower tier’ teams/conferences would get national exposure as well as a shot at a national championship.  There are to many schools that lose recruits just because the recruit says, “I’m not playing here because you have no chance to win a national championship even if you do go undefeated”.
